Welcome to Evolutionary Neuro-Linguistics

DINOC resources are freely available to students of Neuro-Linguistics, young & old. Of special interest is The Quadrupling and our Cognitive Holy Grail: Where do SENTENCES come from? For Systems Neurobiologists, The Quadrupling (~4x Expansion of Chimp Neocortex) is rad.

WDSCF *is* NEURO-LINGUISTICS

WDSCF is two very different questions: -1- Where, in our brains, do sentences come from, and -2- Where, on the African Savannah, did they come from? The first question simply cannot be answered without a deep embrace of the second. Hominid Games, to be published soon, provides our initial findings on both questions. 6 Posters to Neurogenerative Grammar. THE FIRST TWO were presented at Cognitive Neuroscience Society and Neurobiology of Language meetings and shared the background, rationale and circuitry needed to evolve language. The CNS Poster (O'Malley and Xue) provides the key steps to evolve an NGG. NGG / Hominid Games Resources

Morpho-Syntax: RJ Schemas (incl. Morphosyntax) sparked some NGG advances b/c there seemed a nice mapping from linguistic PRM machinery and the kinds of things that kids learn so easily: this is an easy neuronal circuit to implement and it generalizes (but only for linguistic animals).

deltaBV aka The Quadrupling. The nearly four-fold expansion of Hominid Neocortex, over the past 6 million years, i.e. since we split from our Chimpish Ancestors, is arguably (1) the greatest cognitive achievement on Earth and arguably (2) the greatest mystery of Systems Neurobiology: none of us has even begun to plausibly explain why Evolution found it necessary to bestow upon us an additional 15 Billion Neurons! The modern Chimp brain, with its 5 Billion is pretty darn good! At just about everything we can do-- except for Language. And our hominid Semantic Construction Organ (LLO, hSCO). The DINOC Journal will generally publish works that relate in some way to Neuro-Linguistics and/or Language Evolution. This is mainly by invitation, given resource constraints. Hominid Games is a Research Monograph that's been serially expanded since 2020, but has now given way to this web site: its final state (Dec. 2024; HG8) will be published soon. While it has spawned a plethora of new topics, it remains a robust, foundational work.
